The Department of Law and Criminology at Aberystwyth University is looking to appoint a Bilingual Lecturer in Law

who will contribute to our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research activities in Law in both Welsh and English. The successful candidate will accordingly have excellent communication skills in both Welsh and English.



We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to teach the following subjects bilingually: criminal law, land law, tort law and equity.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in law (or cognate subject) and will have experience of teaching law through the medium of both Welsh and English. You will be able to work as part of a team and independently.

Candidates applying for this role will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of modules and programmes at undergraduate level; to the pastoral care of students; to such reasonable administrative duties as may be allocated to them and to the monitoring and maintenance of pertinent quality standards. Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role

In collaboration with other Departmental colleagues and in consultation with external professional bodies where appropriate:

Teaching and Learning Duties

To deliver teaching and to play a role in the development of Law as a subject area. To prepare for and deliver undergraduate, postgraduate and (exceptionally) other taught provision. To take responsibility for coordinating the delivery of Departmental modules. To contribute to the design, planning and delivery of undergraduate provision, in collaboration with colleagues in the Department, the Faculty and other relevant stakeholders and within the parameters of the University's protocols for teaching, learning and assessment. As a member of the teaching team, you will have a Personal Tutor group and will be required to hold formal meetings, some of which will include opportunities to discuss assessment and feedback with a view to ensuring, at all times, on-going learner development. To engage with Aberystwyth University's formal structures for curriculum development in the planning and preparation of new provision and the delivery of excellent teaching and learning undertake all relevant duties which will include: + Assessing assignments and completing feedback within a tight timescale and in accordance with Departmental and University guidelines with reference to AU's Assessment and Feedback policy;
+ Engage productively with AU IT systems;
+ Liaising with External Examiners with respect to specific aspects of the provision and;
+ Ensure the curriculum reflects the needs of the employability agenda and strategy for the University.

Research

To undertake research that leads to the publication and dissemination of REF returnable research outputs. To produce or have clear potential to produce work that is recognised in terms of originality, significance and rigour. To engage pro-actively and responsibly with the Departmental and AU research agenda and strategy. To supervise post-graduate research students. To foster research-based partnerships, networks and collaboration at local, national and or/ international level. To prepare and submit grant funding applications. To understand and engage with the Research Engagement and Impact agenda. To contribute to the nurturing of a productive research environment within and beyond the Department.

Other Duties:

To make a positive and pro-active contribution to marketing and recruitment at UG & PG curriculum level. To play a part in developing and growing the Department's Welsh-medium activities. To engage with and contribute to open and visiting days and to participate in school visits and other recruitment and outreach events. To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post. To be committed to your own development and that of your staff through the effective use of the University's Effective Contribution Scheme. Who you are - Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required

Essential

A PhD in Law or a cognate subject.

Currently working towards, or have completed, a teaching qualification.

Experience of teaching law through the medium of Welsh and English as part of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree course.

Flexibility to teach outside immediate specialist area and to teach across the range of provision in law in the Department.

Evidence of research outputs published or accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of the grant funding landscape and willingness to engage with it.

Experience of undertaking administrative responsibilities within an academic context.

Experience of working, in both Welsh and English, with individuals, ideally students in a personal tutoring, welfare or other formal or informal mentoring capacity.

Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level C2.

Desirable

Evidence of having engaged in Research Impact activity.

Evidence of having been engaged in Knowledge Exchange activity in connection with research
