This is an exciting time to join the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (SECaM) as the 63 million Babbage Building creates the state-of-the-art space for inspiring research and teaching, and enables multidisciplinary collaborations.

SECaM is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and includes the subject areas of civil and coastal engineering, computer science, electrical and electronic engineering and robotics, mathematical sciences, mechanical, marine and materials engineering, and navigation and maritime science. We have an extensive portfolio of research from offshore renewable energy, marine and maritime technologies, coastal engineering and robotics to maritime cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and data science. With many internationally recognised experts, our teaching staff are passionate about providing an innovative and inspiring learning experience.


About the role





We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Marine Engineering to enhance and strengthen our research and teaching capacities in the areas of marine and maritime engineering. You will lead teaching in marine engineering, particularly in the theoretical aspects of marine systems and prime movers and you will be expected to contribute to the teaching of thermodynamics and thermal engineering across our suite of undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programmes. You may be required to take part in internationalisation activities (including overseas teaching delivery opportunities) and widening participation activities. As such, you should have experience of providing high quality teaching at these levels.



You will take an active approach to interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary teaching and research collaborations and will be able to demonstrate external collaborations with the potential for generating impacts.

The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

What we're looking for





You should hold a PhD in a relevant engineering discipline or significant industrial experience, ideally with Chartered Engineer status. You should be able to demonstrate a strong track record of producing high-quality outputs, and, ideally, provide evidence of attracting funding to support your work.
