A new academic post for an Immunologist at the University of Aberdeen (UoA) is available through funds raised by the local Aberdeen Charity Saving Sight in Grampian (SSIG). This is an exciting opportunity for an independently minded researcher interested in neurodegenerative diseases such as, but not limited to, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Age-Related Macular Degeneration. The post is appointable at Lecturer level, grade depending on the experience, expertise, and imaginative outlook of the successful applicant. While experience in neurodegenerative disease could be an advantage, it is not essential.

###

Neurodegenerative diseases are chronic inflammatory processes involving both innate and adaptive immunity. Immunity and inflammation are controlled by many systems including physiological ageing and autophagy, energy metabolism, genomics, protein and lipid turnover, homeostasis, and more. We are therefore advertising this post with the aim of attracting an immunologist who has a fresh and innovative approach to understanding how inflammation and immunity alter normal physiology to induce neurodegenerative disease.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the grade 7 scale, 46,735 - 55,755 per annum, and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience, and in accordance with the University's pay policy: https://www.abdn.ac.uk/media/site/staffnet/documents/policy-zone-employment/Pay-Policy-2024.pdf

Informal enquiries should be made to Professor Jenna Gregory (01224 437524 / jenna.gregory@abdn.ac.uk) or Professor John V. Forrester (01224 437507 / j.forrester@abdn.ac.uk)

Prior to employment, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK. This role may be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route under the UKVI immigration rules but is dependent on factors specific to the candidate and if tradeable points can be used under the rules.
