Computational cancer is a new UCL centre linking the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering and the Cancer Institute. The centre includes multiple internationally-leading research groups covering a broad range of activities and spread over several sites in UCL. Our staff and students have a diverse range of interests and expertise, covering many areas of cancer including carcinogenesis and cancer evolution, cancer therapies and treatment dynamics, and cancer informatics. Our focus is on excellent academic research in identifying new technologies and methods for diagnosis, treatment and management of cancer. We also will launch a new MSc in Computational Cancer in the near future.


About the role

Applications are invited for a Lecturer (assistant professor) position in computational cancer (Grade 8: 54,931 - 64,644 per annum). The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the research portfolio in the area.


We are specifically seeking early-career and established researchers to significantly strengthen the department's teaching and research capacity in the following areas of cancer research:


Carcinogenesis and cancer evolution Data science and cancer informatics Omics Early detection Prevention Systems biology and dynamic systems AI

The successful candidates will be expected to strengthen the research portfolio of the theme as well as contributing to the teaching of the department at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. The appointee will perform the normal administrative duties expected of a member of academic staff.



This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

About you

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications and/or significant industrial experience. We are seeking individuals with a track record of research within an appropriate field, including publications in high-quality peer reviewed journals. Candidates must have the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with students, academics and professional services staff at all levels. The ability to work independently and also as part of a team, recognising when advice / input needs to be sought, is essential, as well as a high level of accuracy and keen attention to detail and passion for teaching.



A higher education teaching qualification is desirable.
