ROLE PURPOSE:
You will teach music, visual arts or related disciplines to students studying within the Academy of Contemporary Music. As a lecturer your duties include contributing to the development, delivery and assessment of modules related to your specialism.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
:
To help with clarity, prior to the start of each academic year, you will be given a more specific responsibility set with associated KPIs as part of your annual review process.
Curriculum Development and Delivery
Develop learning and teaching materials and resources for the modules that you teach on.
Use your own industry and/or academic experience to enhance your teaching and support the development of your students in relation to their industry and/or academic skills and knowledge
Provide opportunities for all students in your classes to develop skills that enable their academic, personal and professional progression.
Engage with your module leader(s) to ensure that all learning materials for your classes are relevant, current and complete
Deliver a high quality teaching experience to students, aligning with areas of best practice in relation to the delivery of a creative industry higher education course
Ensure that your classes are delivered appropriately to support a positive and accessible experience for a diverse body of students
Undertake assessment, marking and moderation activities as appropriate
Take registers and track attendance and engagement for your classes, letting module leaders know if you are concerned about any particular students
Gather and respond to feedback from the students that you teach
Provide support for the students in your classes, signposting them to other departments and individuals as appropriate
Quality Assurance and Enhancement
Engage with module and pathway leaders, and development opportunities at ACM, to ensure that your approach to learning, teaching and assessment aligns with the approach required by ACM
Initiate and implement enhancements to the classes that you teach, engaging with quality assurance and enhancement processes as appropriate
Contribute to discussions related to the course curriculum, delivery and overall student experience in relation to your areas of expertise
Support module leader(s) to implement strategies related to attainment and retention in your classes
Uphold academic and professional standards in all areas of your practice
Actively engage with ACM's policies and processes regarding learning, teaching and assessment
Review and respond to feedback about the modules that you teach on, as appropriate
Ensure that the classes that you teach adhere to appropriate academic standards
Additional Responsibilities
Attend meetings as required to identify areas of good practice and/or risk
Support student recruitment activities including open days and auditions
Support early career staff as appropriate
Contribute to discussions about the strategic direction of the programmes and pathways that you teach on
Support students in your classes, in alignment with safeguarding and wellbeing mechanisms at ACM
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Qualifications
An undergraduate qualification in a related subject, plus industry experience in a related field OR a postgraduate qualification in education or a subject specialism.
Essential Experience
Experience of teaching and supporting students in a higher education environment
Essential Skills
Awareness of the current issues impacting Higher Education and the role that teaching plays
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent IT skills and knowledge
Desirable
Postgraduate qualification in a subject specialism
A teaching qualification in Higher Education or Fellowship with AdvanceHE, or a commitment to undertake qualification whilst in post
Experience of curriculum design and development
Experience of assessment, marking and moderation
