Job Description


We are recruiting a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in human neuroscience or psychology to provide research and education in the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

Our Faculty of Science and Engineering offers a world-class teaching environment covering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. With genuine trailblazing specialisms, our research has real-world impact and cultivates lasting relationships with businesses, the government, sports organisations and the general public to share our innovation and expertise. We have invested strongly in our Institute of Sport to establish ourselves as sector leaders for sports education and research. New research and teaching spaces provide a unique range of facilities for testing human physical and psychological function, including human movement laboratories with VICON 3D MOCAP and a range of instrumented devices, extreme environment chamber with temperature, humidity and hypoxia control, and clinical imaging with 3T MRI, DEXA and ultrasound equipment for detailed investigations of athletes, patients and the general public. We work with elite sports organisations, local authorities and clinical groups to facilitate world class research and knowledge exchange to understand human movement across the age and health span and to optimise performance for all.

For this particular position, we are seeking a neuroscientist or psychologist with experience of working with magnetic resonance imaging, delivering world-class research and research-led teaching. The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • A PhD in neuroscience, psychology or a related discipline.
  • An established track record of publishing high quality original research in peer reviewed journals, applying for research funding and translating research findings for athlete/public/patient benefit.
  • Experience of delivering high quality teaching and student experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience of operating 3 Tesla MRI, developing new sequences and scanning paradigms, as well as devising efficient analysis pathways to add value to our research agenda.
