Kensington House Publishing Ltd is seeking a talented and detail-oriented
Legal Advisor
to join its established team. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to work at the heart of one of the UK's leading illustrated non-fiction publishers, ensuring that our publishing activities comply with legal standards and supporting the business across a range of commercial, contractual, and intellectual property matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in guiding projects from concept to publication by advising authors, editors, designers, and marketing teams on legal risks and best practices.
Duties
Provide legal advice throughout the publishing process, from initial concept through to finished product.
Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, including author agreements, licensing deals, and supplier contracts.
Manage and advise on rights and permissions, ensuring correct clearance for all third-party content.
Support the creation and review of sales and marketing materials to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Conduct legal research and prepare risk assessments or guidance notes for internal teams.
Oversee compliance with copyright, defamation, privacy, data protection, and consumer protection laws across print and digital formats.
Requirements
Proven experience as a in a similar legal role, ideally within publishing, media, or related creative industries.
Strong understanding of intellectual property law, including copyright and licensing.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and effectively.
Proficiency in standard office software such as Microsoft Word or Google Workspace.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform accurate legal research under tight deadlines.
Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and ethical considerations affecting publishing and content production.
Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
A degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) is essential.
