The Role



We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. This role offers a balance between remote work and time spent in our Canary Wharf office. As a Legal Assistant at Penerley Solicitors, you will play a vital role in supporting our legal team.

Key Responsibilities



Document Preparation and Filing
Draft and proofread letters, contracts, witness statements, court forms and other legal documents in areas like employment, property, commercial law and wills. Organise, scan and file both physical and digital documents to support casework.

Client Interaction & Diary Management
Act as a first point of contact for clients: answer calls, schedule appointments, take messages, and handle routine queries with professionalism and discretion. Coordinate meetings, court hearings, and deadlines across employment tribunals, property hearings, or contractual negotiations.

Administrative & Case Support
Maintain and update case files, track deadlines, prepare court bundles/materials, and liaise with courts and external bodies. Handle billing processes, generate invoices, and assist in timekeeping or financial admin when required.

Skills & Experience



Minimum of 1 year experience working as a Legal Assistant in a legal firm. Strong communication skills - both written and verbal. Experience drafting and proofreading legal documents (e.g. letters, contracts, court forms, witness statements) Familiarity with legal areas such as employment law, property, commercial law, or wills Skilled in scanning, organising, and filing both digital and physical case documents Confident in managing client communication: answering phones, handling queries, and taking detailed messages Experience scheduling appointments, court hearings, and managing legal diaries Ability to maintain and update case files and track key legal deadlines Preparing court bundles and supporting materials for hearings or tribunals Liaising with courts, legal bodies, and third-party organisations professionally Supporting billing processes: generating invoices, inputting time, and general financial admin Experience using legal case management software, ideally Clio.

Work Arrangement



After the first three months, there will be an option to possibly transition to a full-time remote working arrangement. This will depend on the needs of the business and the capabilities of the individual. Occasional attendance at the office may still be required for meetings and other responsibilities.
