The role
Due to continued growth and success, we are seeking an efficient and enthusiastic Legal Cashier to join our busy accounts team at our Manchester office.
You will work closely with the Head of Accounts and a senior cashier, with additional support from the Senior Management Team.
The role also includes responsibility for billing Legal Aid police station files and making the necessary ledger postings (full training provided; experience in this area preferred but not essential).
Key Responsibilities
Daily Tasks:
Use of the firm's case management and accounts system for all postings to client and office accounts
Communicating with clients and fee earners regarding outstanding and received payments
Posting invoices and processing both client and office disbursements
Managing the accounts team mailbox and responding to queries
Daily bank reconciliations and handling card machine payments
Credit control and posting monies onto ledgers
Archiving and general accounts administration
Criminal Billing:
Billing Police Station cases (up to two days per week)
Posting mileage, checking accuracy of time claimed, uploading bills to the LAA portal
Making necessary ledger postings
Other Duties:
Operating within the firm's policies and procedures
Contributing to the improvement and development of procedures
- Undertaking other tasks as required by the role.
Candidate Requirements (Preferential, Not Essential)

Minimum 2 years' experience as a Legal Cashier (preferential)
Broad experience in financial and accounting teams
Working knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules
Proficiency with Microsoft 365
Strong academic results in maths and English (preferential)
Highly organised, efficient, and able to work both independently and as part of a small team
Flexible, proactive, and able to use initiative
