Legal Cashier - 12 month FTC - Maternity Cover
We have hubs in Birmingham, Leicester, Lincoln, London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon and Sheffield. This role can be a blend of home and office based work with travel as required into any of our Midlands hubs.
The role of the Legal Cashier (Brands) is to provide a high quality service to clients on the full range of Finance matters. The key aspect of the role is to provide effective, compliant delivery of all financial transactions relating to their brand, in line with the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs.)
Our cashiering function operates in a unique 3 team structure with the central team at its core posting all transactional incoming receipts before handing over to the outward focused cashiering teams to handle the day to day ledger management.
The day-to-day duties and responsibilities of a Legal Cashier (brands) is to be a subject matter expert within the brands, ensure that each brand (inc fee earners and matter partners) are proactively supported with all financial matters, that their brand (inc fee earners and matter partners) remain compliant with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and that is achieved by ensuring that all financial related matters are conducted accurately and timely ("without delay").
What you will be doing:

  • Billing - Generating brand bills in line with client/fee earner requirements to facilitate prompt payment, liaising with legal teams to obtain appropriate instructions, adjusting time and disbursements entries and delivering bills as finalised in line with scheduling.
  • Credit Notes - Generating Credit notes as required with a focus on optimising revenue, liaising with legal and support teams on the amendment of bills as required.
  • Outgoing Payment Postings: Ensure the accurate and timely posting of payment deliverables, via our EPS systems/Chaps/Cheque processes, ensuring all transactions are promptly recorded, in compliance with internal policies and Solicitors Accounts Rules, that legal teams are promptly notified of ledger transactions relevant to their matters. Matter ledger management: Undertake relevant transactional postings ie client to office, office to client and matter to matter transfers as required for ledger management. Client interest: Calculate and allocate client interest to matters as in line with group policy.
  • Foreign payments: Process foreign payments accurately, calculating any relevant conversion rates and ensure timely posting to ledgers.
  • Time/matter management: Support legal teams to ensure both time recorded, and disbursements are accurately posted, provide guidance and resource on correction (including transfer) to ensure financial hygiene on matter ledgers is optimised.
  • Undertakings: Records and monitor financial undertakings, ensure they are appropriately accounted for within the finance system, reviewed regularly and discharged in line with legal requirements (as instructed by the legal teams.)
  • General queries: Manage and deliver timely, professional service to brand, ensuring queries are resolved promptly, signpost queries in relation to specific brands to the relevant SME, but always resolving issues and general queries to ensure high level of customer service.
  • Compliance: Ensure all financial activities comply with Solicitors Accounts Rules and internal policies.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Be an SME within your designated team, building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing excellent customer service and support to both internal BusOps and the wider legal teams.
  • Collaboration: Undertaking projects and any other tasks as directed by the Central Team Leader, including supporting the brand teams at busy periods, signposting queries in relation to specific brands to the relevant team, resolving issues and general queries to ensure high level of customer service. Systemisation: Provide recommendations on systemisation opportunities around internal processes to improve efficiencies in line with SARs

What you will need:
Essential:
  • Proven experience in a similar role within a law firm
  • Strong knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules
Desirable:
  • Experience of working with Aderant
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
