Due to a redesign of the service, we have a Legal Clerk vacancy available.


The Education legal Team advise on a broad range of Education Legal matters including question relating to School Organisation, Elective Home Education, Special Educational Needs, School Improvement, School and Governor Support, Education Transport, Admissions, Exclusions and Alternative Provision. The Team also deals with claims for Judicial Review brought against the City Council in respect of education matters and appeals in the Upper Tribunal relating to SEND matters. Your role would involve supporting members of the team in their work relating to the above areas, including significant involvement in the administrative aspects of the School Admissions Appeals and Exclusion Review Services.


As a Legal Clerk you will be proactive, enthusiastic and be able to show good attention to detail. You will have a commitment to providing exceptional legal administrative support.


Key responsibilities:


Using the case management system to produce correspondence, forms, court documents, maps and plans, and other documentation as required by the team. To create content tables, graphs, spread sheets, tracked changes and other word processor functions as required.


Producing accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date legal documentation and court bundles, under direction, to tight deadlines.


Operating general office equipment, e.g. scanners, photocopiers, binders and computers.


Opening new legal case files using the case management system including setting up initial documentation and completing acknowledgments. To close files on the case management system, prepare paper files for off-site storage and update team spread sheets with case outcomes.


Assisting with the progression of legal casework through administrative tasks.


Monitoring files, sending out appointments, creating reminders and initiating documentation as directed by Fee Earners. Complying with practice management standards


Processing and responding to routine communication (received by post, telephone or email) taking messages, copying and scanning and distributing information as necessary.


Operating legal procedures including authentication and sealing of documents, producing case management reports and assisting with routine processes such as processing invoices.


You will need to Possess GCSE grade A-C or 4-9 (or equivalent) in English and Maths Demonstrate proficiency in using IT systems, a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet packages. You will have over 12 month's experience in an administrative, secretarial or customer service role.
