We are seeking an experienced

Criminal Defence Consultant

to join our firm on a consultancy basis. This is an opportunity for a motivated and capable professional with an existing

criminal client base

to work flexibly and independently, while benefiting from competitive fee-sharing and administrative support.

You will manage your own caseload, with a focus on Crown Court matters, from initial instruction through to trial or resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage own criminal defence caseload, primarily Crown Court files Attend police stations (if accredited) and Magistrates' Court where appropriate Prepare cases for Crown Court, including liaising with counsel, preparing briefs, and instructing experts Make Legal Aid applications, including CRM14s/15s, and manage amendments and prior authority applications Ensure full compliance with Legal Aid Agency and court procedures Maintain client care and case progression standards in line with regulatory requirements

Requirements:

Must have an existing criminal defence

client base

Must have

hands-on experience running Crown Court cases

Strong working knowledge of the criminal litigation process and Legal Aid procedures Police Station Accreditation is a strong advantage Ability to manage own time, paperwork, and deadlines independently Not essential to be a qualified solicitor, but must have demonstrable, relevant experience in criminal defence practice
