Job Description

Our client is looking for a Legal Counsel (DCO) to join their in house legal team, it involves providing expert legal advice and support on Development Consent Orders (DCO) and related regulatory matters within the energy and natural resources sector. This position requires a proactive approach to managing legal risks and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations.

  • Provide legal advice on Development Consent Orders (DCO) and associated regulatory frameworks.
  • Working closely with the SRO portfolio, particularly the Senior Legal Counsel and the Engagement, Land and Consents SRO team, to ensure the DCO applications are legally robust and defendable.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of legal agreements and contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to the energy and natural resources sector.
  • Manage external legal counsel and coordinate their input on complex projects.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with infrastructure development projects.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with legal and business objectives.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes and advise on their potential impact.
  • Support the legal department in delivering strategic initiatives and policy development.

A successful Legal Counsel - DCO should have:
  • A UK/IRE qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5 years PQE.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of Development Consent Orders (DCO) and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in the energy and natural resources industry or related sectors.
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex legal documents.
  • Excellent understanding of regulatory compliance and statutory requirements.
  • Ability to manage external counsel effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
