What is the overall job?
Reporting into the Head of Legal, the Legal Counsel will provide legal and strategic advice on construction projects in the UK. The Legal Counsel will assist in the tender review, negotiation and drafting of construction documents (including building contracts, subcontracts, consultant appointments, bonds and guarantees) ensuring consistency with commercial objectives, arrangements and risk profiles. Other key responsibilities will include:
Providing commercial and focused solutions to legal issues
Providing high quality legal service without recourse to external lawyers where appropriate
Developing and providing training for non-legal personnel in the construction business to improve their understanding of legal issues on construction projects
Advising on and managing legal disputes on construction projects.
What do I need to be successful in this role?
You'll need a Proven post qualification experience within a similar sized organisation, either working in house for a main contractor or for a private practice law firm in the construction sector
Additional skills and experience would include:
Familiar with JCT contracts, familiarity with other contract forms would also be beneficial
Claims experience would be advantageous
Familiarity with insurance related issues would also be beneficial.
LPC Post Qualification / Qualified Solicitor.
