About the Role





Addison Lee is seeking a proactive and commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our in-house legal team. This is a newly created role and will be heavily focused on drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, although the successful candidate will also work across other areas (including employment, litigation, data protection and more) according to business requirements. As a guideline, the successful candidate should have 1-2 years PQE, although those with greater or less experience are also encouraged to apply if they have relevant experience.

Location




This role is based at our head office in Paddington (on a hybrid basis, with employees working four days a week from the office), situated by the picturesque and thriving Paddington Basin, and only just a 5-minute walk from the station.


Paddington Basin is known for being a prime central London location with plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars to socialise and unwind in, be it during or after work with colleagues, you will be sure to have lots of choice!

This role reports to the General Counsel.

Requirements



Main Accountabilities



Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including customer, supplier and partnership agreements and NDAs aligning these with business objectives whilst mitigating risk. Draft and manage terms and conditions of business (for B2B and B2C) and related documentation. Manage and represent our legal position alongside our commercial team in client meetings and calls. Maintain and improve contract templates and clauses and manage internal processes to ensure prioritisation of legal resource across business contract requirements. Advise on data protection, regulatory and compliance matters in connection with commercial contracts. Assist the marketing team with competitions and promotions including drafting terms and conditions. Work with our Trainee Solicitor to manage the company books and ensure that filings are made in good time. Advise on ad hoc queries including from the customer services team. Work with our Trainee Solicitor and external lawyers to manage and advise on our patent and trademark portfolio. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage time and expectations effectively. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the law in areas of special interest to the company. The role is client-facing (both internal and external) requiring diplomacy and good communication. Candidates must have a demonstrable ability to explain complex areas of law in simple terms without using legal jargon.

Requirements



Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts is essential and the successful candidate will be self-sufficient. A qualified solicitor with a genuine passion to work in-house. A positive attitude and strong work ethic with a desire to learn and develop legal understanding. Sound academic background (Law degree or equivalent degree/ law school studies at respected University preferred) Ability to communicate confidently and professionality across different business functions and leadership levels. Works well under pressure, able to hit the ground running and handle numerous projects at once to meet deadlines. Work involves confidential and sensitive information; discretion is essential.
