We're hiring: Legal Counsel - UK & Ireland (Fixed Term 12 months)



Location: Redhill



Join AXA Partners as a Legal Counsel and play a pivotal role in safeguarding the business across the UK & Ireland. You'll partner with colleagues across commercial, technical, and operations teams to deliver practical legal solutions, support new business activities, and steer compliance with evolving laws and regulations. This is a hands-on role for a proactive, results-driven lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What you'll be doing:

Provide business-facing legal support across the UK & Ireland, collaborating with in-house or external advisers as needed Draft and negotiate the legal terms of commercial agreements, with a focus on insurance/reinsurance and distribution/binding authority arrangements Contribute to special projects (e.g., corporate restructurings, regulatory changes) and help drive practical, timely outcomes Monitor emerging legal and regulatory developments and offer proactive, commercial guidance Deliver high-quality, pragmatic advice that supports business decisions while managing risk Act with visibility and flexibility, seeking opportunities to engage with stakeholders in person where possible Partner with the Head of Legal - UK & Ireland to manage workload efficiently and control costs Ensure sound legal guidance and strategic support for the business, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives Work closely with the central compliance team to maintain compliant relationships with regulators and meet national requirements Escalate issues promptly and clearly when approvals or higher-level input is required

What you'll bring:

Qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of legal experience in the UK insurance sector, ideally with an international company Strong understanding of the UK and EU insurance regulatory framework Highly organized with the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet tight timescales Ability to present complex legal matters clearly and accessibly to diverse audiences Experience in commercial negotiations, with proven drafting and negotiation skills Flexible, adaptable, and capable of challenging the status quo with sound commercial judgment Self-starter who can work autonomously Excellent written and verbal communication in English

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
