Role Purpose
The
Legal Housing Executive
will provide specialist support on housing-related legal matters, including tenancy management, possession proceedings, disrepair claims, and landlord-tenant disputes. This role will combine case management with advisory responsibilities, ensuring that Caridon operates within legal frameworks while achieving its operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of housing law matters, including:
Possession proceedings
Tenancy enforcement and anti-social behaviour cases
Homelessness and allocations issues
Disrepair and property condition claims
Draft and review tenancy agreements, notices, pleadings, and other legal documents.
Represent Caridon in court or tribunal hearings where appropriate or instruct and manage external solicitors/barristers.
Provide clear, practical legal advice to housing and property teams.
Developing policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks relating to housing law.
Monitor changes in legislation and case law, ensuring Caridon adapts policies accordingly.
Assist in training housing officers and operational teams on legal processes and best practice.
Maintain accurate records, case files, and management information.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Qualified Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX), OR substantial equivalent experience in housing law.
Experience
Strong track record in housing law (minimum 3-5 years PQE or equivalent).
Experience managing housing litigation (possession, disrepair, ASB, tenancy enforcement).
Familiarity with homelessness legislation and landlord-tenant law.
Prior experience working in a housing association, local authority, or property services environment is desirable.
Up to date Housing law knowledge (e.g. Awaabs law and Renters Rights Bill)
Skills & Attributes
Excellent knowledge of housing law and related legislation.
Strong advocacy and drafting skills.
Ability to balance legal risks with commercial and operational objectives.
Effective communicator with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly.
Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
