Enforcement, Litigation and Regulatory Legal Officer Opportunity
Are you a legal professional seeking a new opportunity that offers flexibility, career growth, and the chance to make a real impact within your community?
We are recruiting a Legal Officer on a permanent full-time basis to work within our Enforcement and Litigation Team. If you are looking for a new challenge, where every day is different, and your role makes a huge impact on a local community...
... This is it.
What will your day look like?
We are seeking a Legal Officer to join the Enforcement, Litigation and Regulatory section of our Legal Services team. No two days within the Council's legal team are the same and you will have a diverse caseload of matters.
Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing enforcement case files in service areas including Education, Environmental Health and Anti-Social Behaviour, and making recommendations for appropriate action, in line with our enforcement policy
  • Collating and serving court bundles
  • Assisting with the drafting, review and amendment of legal Orders
  • Conducting research on a wide range of issues affecting the Council
  • Interpreting legislation, case law and statutory guidance and providing advice to client departments
  • Assisting with School Appeals including acting as a Clerk for the Independent Appeals Panel, ensuring a fair and lawful process
  • Supporting senior members of the Legal Team with their caseloads
As a local authority legal professional, you'll often be called upon to advise on a range of other issues and so an adaptable, flexible and solution focused approach is essential.
Who are we looking for?
You should be a professional with a legal background, in terms of study and experience. Local authority and enforcement/litigation/regulatory experience is desirable but not essential.
If you have the transferable skills the Council will commit to providing you with the restorative and supportive environment, we'll provide training and support to help you succeed
If you want a challenge, a diverse caseload and to break away from traditional billing focused private sector work, this is the job for you!
You will have experience in providing clear and concise legal advice and the drafting of documents.
You will have good communication skills, be an adaptable and driven individual and be able to manage a fast-paced working environment.
You are a dynamic and skilled individual who can apply your knowledge and skills and is open to a new challenge.
Why join us?
Our team is a mix of experienced solicitors, senior legal officers, trainee solicitors, and legal officers, all working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for our client departments and the Council. We offer:
  • A supportive and friendly working environment
  • High flexibility in working arrangements, including hybrid home and office working and flexi-time
  • No traditional legal time-recording and billing
  • Opportunities to work on high-value projects and gain insight into local government law and governance
  • Development opportunities, including additional training, shadowing team members, and career progression
