As a specialist immigration legal expert
accredited at level 2 or 3 Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) (or equivalent
), you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the British Red Cross' Refugee Support services are underpinned by high-quality legal advice and guidance. You'll empower operational teams with the tools and knowledge they need to deliver safe, effective support to displaced people in a rapidly evolving landscape.
Working closely with various stakeholders, you'll help strengthen and develop our Level 1 IAA-accredited advice work, offering second-tier advice and legal expertise within your competence to frontline teams. You'll also serve as a key operational focal point within Migration and Displacement, responding to external policy and legislative changes from a service delivery perspective and developing user-centred guidance, training and support to upskill and support operational teams. This role sits within the UK Development Hub, with a dotted line into our Legal team--bridging legal insight with humanitarian impact.
A Day in the Life of a Legal Services Manager will involve
Strengthen Legal Advice Services
by leading the development and delivery of high-quality Level 1 IAA-accredited immigration advice across Refugee Support, supporting advisors and managers nationwide.
Provide Expert Guidance
, acting as a key escalation point for complex or high-risk cases, offering second-tier legal advice within competence and ensuring teams are equipped to respond to legal and policy changes.
Ensure Quality and Compliance
by collaborating on frameworks for supervision, auditing, and quality assurance, while maintaining IAA registration and preparing for audits to uphold compliance with the Code of Standards.
Develop Legal Capacity
, exploring opportunities to expand Level 2 IAA provision, supporting teams to grow their legal advice capabilities within the British Red Cross' humanitarian framework.
Developing Operation Briefings and Guidance
for frontline staff and volunteers in response to changing policy and legislation.
Collaborate Across Teams
working closely with the Casework Practice Development Manager, Legal Team, and International Law and Policy Team to align legal services with best practice and humanitarian principles.
Contribute to Team Culture
by Engaging actively in team meetings, support colleagues in the UK Development Hub, and embody the British Red Cross values--ensuring inclusive, compassionate, and courageous service delivery.
To be a successful Legal Services Manager you'll need
Accredited to Level 2 IAA (or equivalent)
with expert knowledge of immigration law, asylum advice, and IAA standards and processes.
Proven experience in capacity building
, with the ability to develop and deliver training, support advice services across diverse teams and develop user-centred guidance
Strong collaboration skills
, able to bring stakeholders together and navigate complex issues using inclusive and solution-focused approaches.
Excellent communication and leadership
, with the ability to engage senior leaders, facilitate conversations, and deliver clear guidance to varied audiences.
Deep understanding of migration and displacement issues in the UK
, including the legal and policy landscape affecting service users.
Adaptability and digital confidence
, with experience managing competing priorities in fast-changing environments and using Microsoft and other digital tools effectively.
