Job Description

We are seeking an Apprentice to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for gardening and an interest in learning about greenhouse operations. This position requires the ability to operate heavy equipment and power tools, as well as perform heavy lifting. Responsibilities:

• Assist with maintaining the greenhouse and garden areas
• Operate heavy equipment such as tractors, forklifts, and skid steers
• Use power tools and hand tools to complete various tasks
• Perform heavy lifting of plants, soil, and other materials
• Learn how to maintain and repair greenhouse equipment

Assist with basic math calculations related to plant growth

• Seed Propagation.
• Potting on seedlings.
• Reduce stock losses through following stock processes and procedures.
• Preparing plants for dispatch.
• Conduct regular checks on working areas and plants making sure that standards are maintained

• Responsible for working in a safe manner and ensuring the company\xe2\x80\x99s health and safety procedures are followed.
• Ensure that own actions do not cause risk or hazard to yourself or others.
• Report any health and safety concerns in a timely manner to their mentor, manager, or duty manager.
• Ensure that all stock management procedures within your control are followed correctly to minimise stock loss.
• Be self-motivated to seek out information and share as part of a team.
• Willingness to offer ideas and support to benefit the garden centre and the company.
• Edging and shrub bed maintenance.
• Weeding/sweeping.
• Litter picking/leaf collection.
• Possible Chemical application.
• Safely use grounds maintenance equipment including hand tools, strimmers, hedge-cutters, and any other machinery required.
• Carry out maintenance to grounds maintenance equipment.
• Compliance with all relevant legislation.
• Horticultural operations such as planting, pruning and maintenance of trees and shrubs.
• Work within the plant area - and complete plant watering duties.
• Warehouse duties involving manual handling.
• Product knowledge/product location/handle telephone enquiries.
• Efficient stock management - ensuring stock levels are correct.
• Flexible to work across all departments within the garden centre - transferable skills.

Mechanical knowledge and aptitude for operating heavy equipment
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
Willingness to learn new skills and take on new challenges
Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and operate power tools
