Overview



The Public Relations and Communications Apprentice will play a key role in helping us tell our story - celebrating young people's achievements, raising awareness of our work, and supporting fundraising and partnership campaigns. You will learn how to plan and deliver effective communications, build relationships with media and stakeholders, and create engaging content across digital and offline channels.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while developing a strong foundation for a career in communications and public relations.

This role plays a vital part in sharing the stories of young people, supporting impactful campaigns, and strengthening stakeholder relationships. The apprentice will deliver engaging communications and high-quality content while gaining hands-on experience and structured support through a nationally recognised Level 4 apprenticeship.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

The following is typical of the range of duties the PR & Communications Apprentice will be expected to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar nature and level may be required.

Media & PR

Draft press releases, news stories and case studies that highlight our impact. Monitor media coverage and stay informed on current affairs. Support proactive media engagement and build/maintain contact lists. Assist in reputation management and formulate responses in sensitive or crisis situations.
Digital & Social Media

Create, schedule and publish engaging content across social media channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok). Monitor analytics and adapt content to improve reach and engagement. Support website content updates and SEO. Produce multimedia content such as photos, graphics and videos (using Canva or similar tools).
Campaigns & Fundraising Support

Contribute to the development of communications for fundraising events and campaigns. Help design visuals and digital assets. Capture and share stories that demonstrate the difference our charity makes. Support stakeholder engagement and contribute to new funding proposals.
Internal & Stakeholder Communications

Support staff newsletters, partner updates and volunteer communications. Assist with preparing presentations, reports and case studies for funders and stakeholders. Share content with relevant audiences to inform and influence positive relationships.
General

Carry out administrative tasks to support the communications function. Support the planning and delivery of events, meetings and engagement activities. Commit to training, reflection and review as part of the apprenticeship programme. Uphold the charity's values of inclusivity, integrity and respect for young people's voices. Work within NE Youth's Policies and Procedures Any other reasonable duties as identified by the Chief Executive and appropriate to the level and grading of the post.

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 19 months

Pay: 12.60 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
