About the Role

We are seeking an experienced

Parenting Skills Tutor

to deliver an

accredited Life Skills Parenting course

at HMP Birmingham. The role involves delivering two intensive one-week courses to small groups of men in custody.

This is a classroom-based role requiring professionalism, flexibility and the ability to engage learners who may be unsentenced, recently received into custody, or experiencing family separation and emotional stress.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver an accredited Parenting/Life Skills programme in line with the approved curriculum and awarding body requirements Facilitate group sessions in both morning and afternoon blocks as scheduled by the prison Provide 1:1 learner support for individuals requiring additional help Maintain accurate attendance, assessment and progress records Support learners to reflect on parental identity, responsibility, relationships and positive decision-making Work collaboratively with prison education, safeguarding and reducing reoffending teams Participate in a certificate presentation event at the end of each cohort Adhere at all times to prison security, safeguarding and professional boundaries

Essential Requirements

Experience tutoring, teaching or facilitating in education, training or personal development settings Strong communication and group facilitation skills Ability to manage sensitive discussions around family, relationships and responsibility Level 2 English (or equivalent) Willingness and ability to obtain prison security clearance Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

Desirable Experience

Experience delivering parenting, life skills or personal development programmes Experience working in prisons, probation or other secure environments Knowledge of trauma-informed and inclusive teaching approaches Familiarity with accredited learning or awarding body requirements

Safeguarding & Security

Appointment is subject to:

Enhanced DBS clearance Successful prison security vetting Completion of mandatory safeguarding and prison induction training
