Role Overview
As a Lighting Engineer at MSP, you'll play a key role in delivering creative lighting for high-quality corporate event experiences across our Liverpool HQ and regional venues. You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary technical team, setting up and operating lighting systems to meet diverse client needs. This is a hands-on, client-facing role ideal for a highly creative and proactive team player with strong technical and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
Design of creative lighting systems for corporate events
Ensure all lighting equipment is in working order and perform safety tests
Arrange scaffolding, cranes or other rigging equipment as needed
Prep and rig lighting equipment on site ensuring all cables and wires are safely secured
Position and plot lighting to achieve the desired effect
Maintenance of lighting equipment of each hire
Trouble shoot any technical lighting issues
De-rig equipment at the end of a hire ensuring safe transportation and storage
IT and numeracy skills, particularly for operating lighting consoles and managing electrical loads
Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting issues
Event Execution & Teamwork
Collaborate with AV, sound, and vision teams to deliver seamless productions
Interpret briefs, client requirements, and CAD plans to build effective lighting designs
Visit and assess locations for technical and logistical suitability
Troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively under pressure
Support colleagues across technical roles as needed during events
Keep up to date with industry trends and developments in lighting technology
Manual dexterity and a good level of physical fitness
The ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Attention to detail to achieve the desired lighting effects
A proactive approach to work
Logistics & Equipment Care
Ensure all equipment is securely packed, transported, and maintained
Assist in warehouse operations, including kit prep and inventory checks
Drive and deliver equipment to venues using company vehicles
Health & Safety
Adhere to all H&S policies and practices on-site and during transport
Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work environment
Knowledge and understanding of all H&S procedures and regulations
Essential Experience
Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role
Proven experience in the live events and production industry
Comfortable working from production schedules and client briefs
A combination of technical knowledge, lighting skills and creative flair
Technical qualification or equivalent hands-on experience
Sound understanding of IT systems and networking
Personal Attributes
Highly organised, with strong time management and prioritisation skills
Creative thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities
Confident communicator with a professional client-facing manner
Strong team player with a proactive, self-motivated attitude
Clean UK driving license and own transport preferred

Working Hours
A flexible approach to working hours will be required due to weekend and late night-time schedules, which are managed around flexible shift rotas to ensure a good work-life balance. Overtime is paid at the normal hourly rate, however time off in lieu is preferred and scheduled over quieter periods or usually after longer shifts.
Holiday Entitlement
On Appointment 28 days per year
After 2 years' service 31 days per year
After 5 years 33 days per year
plus 1 day off for your birthday
Bonus Night Pay
The company pays 50 when working away from home and staying overnight at a hotel under company expenses.
