Department Description
The Smart Factory production line which is partly being funded by Innovate Uk is situated in the High Volume UAP (Unit of Autonomous Production) which is divided into a number of Autonomous Groups of Production (GAPs) which are responsible for a specific product range or processes. The Smart Factory production line is going to be fast paced, exceedingly digitalised manufacturing environment with cutting edge technology for production of high precision fasteners for the Aerospace industry.
Job Role - Smart Factory Line technician
The main job purpose of the Smart Factory Line technician is to ensure multiple state of the art machines are set in line with provided standards, perform basic and intermediate maintenance tasks, complete technical reports when deviation from expected standard occurs, manage & monitor performance of consumable tooling, participate in root cause investigation where he /she provides data driven insights. It is also expected that an employee in this role will lead improvement projects within the scope of the job role.
In this role you will have an opportunity to grow your skills and work with state-of-the-art digital manufacturing technology. This is a development project which will lead to further roll out of this new manufacturing technology. You will become fully knowledgeable in all areas and all aspects of the Smart Factory production line. The role is currently working on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, 12 hour shifts, 18:00-6:00am.
Key Responsibilities
Set production equipment in line with technical requirements and within a defined time limit. Where deviation from standards is encountered internal non-conformance ticket is raised. [KPI: set up time + machine adjustment v operator run time]
Carry out first line maintenance (equipment condition and HSE checks) & operator preventative maintenance. Lead continuous development of first line maintenance and operator maintenance checks to eliminate equipment downtime and any hazards. [KPI: breakdown time v run time]
Use portable personal computer to complete technical reports in pre-defined templates when deviation from production / process standards is found. [KPI: number of genuine reports raised per operator]
Ensure consumable tooling life is in line with expected standard. Where deviation occurs (positive & negative) is encountered internal non-conformance ticket is raised [KPI: tool life]
Participate in root cause investigation and provide data driven insights. [No KPI for participation]
Lead improvement projects (within the scope of the job role) allocated by Smart Factory Line Leader. [KPI: number of completed projects per year]
Responsible for accuracy & granularity of machine downtime data input using smart screens provided. [KPI: number of lines reported into database v total time on production line]
Report all breakdowns onto maintenance system and to your Smart Factory Line Leader. [No KPI]
Keep the machine(s) and surrounding work area clean & compliant to 5S standards. Where deviation from standard(s) is encountered raise internal non-conformance ticket to the Smart Factory Line Leader [KPI: audit score from Iauditor].
Conduct a thorough and complete shift handover at the start and end of your shift to ensure the seamless continuation of production that is expected. [No KPI]
Participate and engage in the PSM1 meetings to provide feedback on past performance. It is also expected that you will suggests & scope any improvement activities using provided project selection and justification template [KPI number of validated improvement activities by an employee).
Provide training to new and inexperienced Smart Factory Line Technicians.
Any other adhoc duties as required

Education/Qualifications/Training
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent - Essential
A level education (Sciences, Math, English) grade A-C or equivalent - Desirable
X Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering (maintenance skills) - Essential
Experience/knowledge
Relevant experience within a manufacturing environment - Essential
Experience of working within the Aerospace Industry. - Desirable
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) - Essential
