An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locality Lead Midwife (Midwifery Team Coordinator) to join the Maternity Team at Wirral Women and Children's Hospital in a full time post.



The Locality Lead Midwife will be responsible for leading teams of Continuity of Care and Community staff, operationally managing these staff as well as participating in the care of women in caseloads and having oversight and responsibility for community hubs and venues delivering care. The successful candidate will work within the wider maternity management team , also working closely with the multidisciplinary teams across maternity to provide safe, high quality care.



The successful candidate must have a UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes. The role involves participation in an on-call rota and covers working both in the week and at weekends.



The Locality Lead Midwife will be responsible for the operational running of their teams and community hubs/spaces, providing leadership and clinical advice, optimising the day to day running of clinical activity, supporting maternity issues that may arise, and covering this responsibility for other Locality Lead Midwives when necessary.

Main duties:

To provide effective and extensive leadership, expertise and advice to the CofC/Community teams and wider Maternity Team whilst ensuring, the provision of safe and personalised care in line with best practice, local, regional and national guidance.

Work in collaboration with the Clinical Governance Team; lead Consultants, the Consultant Midwife and the senior management team, to ensure the effective management of risk within maternity services.

To ensure the safe, efficient and effective management of the service within allocated resources.

To act as a role model and expert practitioner in order to develop both midwifery and obstetric led services.

Accept operational responsibility and accountability for their teams and provide managerial and professional support to the maternity service and undertake delegated responsibility in the absence of the Matron.

The post holder should have extensive midwifery experience and recent experience within community midwifery services, and be able to work clinically with expertise and credibility. Candidates need robust experience post-qualifying, sound knowledge of maternity services, particularly community based services, be approachable and knowledgeable, experienced in training and mentoring staff as well as having proven leadership skills. Experience of operational management would be desirable.

You should have a clear commitment to current developments and initiatives within the Midwifery arena and sound knowledge of current issues in the public health agenda.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.



As this vacancy is within the division of Women's and Children's, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is 13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.
