Job Summary:



We are seeking an experienced

Locum Consultant in Anaesthetics

to join the dynamic team at [Hospital/Trust Name] for a fixed-term locum role. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality anaesthetic services in various clinical settings, including surgery, intensive care, and pain management. Key Responsibilities:



Clinical Responsibilities:

Provide high-quality anaesthesia services for a variety of surgical specialties, including elective and emergency procedures. Administer anaesthesia for both minor and major surgeries, ensuring appropriate monitoring and post-operative care. Provide anaesthesia support for obstetric and paediatric patients when required. Manage airway and ventilation in emergency cases, including trauma and intensive care patients. Supervise and mentor junior anaesthetic staff and medical trainees during clinical duties. Participate in pre-operative assessments to ensure suitability for anaesthesia and address any patient concerns.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with the surgical, nursing, and allied health professionals to provide optimal perioperative care. Liaise with intensivists, surgeons, and other consultants to ensure safe patient management and care coordination. Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to discuss complex cases and treatment plans. Provide anaesthetic input in emergency cases, including trauma, resuscitation, and critical care.

Teaching and Supervision:

Provide leadership, teaching, and training for junior doctors, anaesthesia trainees, and medical students. Supervise and assess junior anaesthetic staff in clinical decision-making and procedural skills. Lead and participate in departmental educational and clinical teaching sessions, including grand rounds and case discussions. Contribute to clinical governance activities, audits, and continuous improvement within the department.

Leadership and Departmental Development:

Ensure compliance with hospital policies and guidelines, particularly in relation to patient safety, infection control, and anaesthesia protocols. Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities. Contribute to the development of anaesthesia services and protocols within the trust. Lead and participate in clinical audits to assess and improve anaesthesia practice.

Emergency and On-Call Duties:

Participate in the hospital's on-call rota, providing anaesthetic services for emergency surgeries, trauma, and critical care. Provide immediate response to emergency situations requiring anaesthesia in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Manage intensive care unit (ICU) patients requiring anaesthesia or sedation, ensuring optimal patient care.

Qualifications & Requirements:



Medical Qualifications:

Full registration with the

General Medical Council (GMC)

with a valid

Licence to Practise

. Consultant-level experience in anaesthesia, with advanced skills in general and regional anaesthesia.

CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training)

in Anaesthesia or equivalent (or be within 6 months of obtaining this).

FRCA (Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists)

or equivalent qualifications.

Experience:

Significant experience working as a

Consultant Anaesthetist

in an acute hospital environment, including experience in a wide range of surgical and critical care settings. Extensive experience in both elective and emergency anaesthesia, including trauma and intensive care management. Experience in supervising and teaching medical trainees and junior doctors. Experience in clinical leadership, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.

Skills & Abilities:

High level of competency in anaesthesia techniques and patient monitoring. Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work under pressure and manage emergency situations effectively. Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.

Desirable:

Experience in

specialty anaesthesia areas

(e.g., paediatric, obstetric, or neuro-anaesthesia). Previous experience working within an NHS Trust in the UK. Participation in clinical research or clinical audits.

Pay: 100.00-115.00 per hour
