We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic ConsultantinGastroenterology/General Medicine with special interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This is a whole-time post for 6 months (with potential to extend) offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated clinician to join a dynamic, team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals working on the Whiston and St Helens Hospital sites.

Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College ofPhysicians(UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview.CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join a gastroenterology service which comprises: Eleven Consultant Gastroenterologists and a team of approximately thirty specialist nurses in endoscopy, liver, IBD, nutrition and Upper GI Cancer. We also have three GI physiologists and a PA Endoscopist within the team.
The post holder will:
UndertakeGastroenterologyclinics with speciality clinics in IBD.
On a rota basis, assume responsibility for the inpatient care of the Gastroenterology ward, which at times also house General Medical Patients. Also give a specialist opinion to other inpatients within the hospital.
Perform elective endoscopic procedures (diagnostic and therapeutic upper & lower GI endoscopy) and be competent in most interventional endoscopy techniques, to allow the support of the out of hours and weekend acute upper GI bleed rota (1:8). Additional training and support will be available if required.
Support delivery of national targets (18 weeks, 62-day cancer, new to follow up ratios, length of stay).
Provide training and supervision to junior doctors.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
