The post will be based in the Department of General Surgery.
We are hoping to appoint two consultants with prior upper GI/ Hepatobiliary training, and we anticipate the new appointees will be able to deliver a range of procedures (elective and emergency) from early on in their appointment, although mentoring will be available for those who require it. In addition, we hope the new appointees will be willing to take a lead role in the ongoing development of our 'hot gallbladder' service, particularly in regard to streamlining our care pathways, ensuring that we maintain a robust and safe service.
The department consists of Colorectal, Bariatric, Emergency and General Surgery.
These are new posts that are designed to help with the evolution and growth of our unit.
The appointee will also be expected to deliver some EGS cover as necessary for the running of the department. The appointee will be expected to perform routine cholecystectomy and where appropriate perform "hot cholecystectomy". There is also a requirement to perform routine general surgery work, including hernia surgery and lumps/bumps, depending on the service needs.
The appointee will participate on the general surgery consultant on-call rota. Currently, this consists of 1 in 10 weeknight cover from 5pm to 8am, and 1 in 10 weekend cover.
This will be changed to 1 in 13 after the new recruitments.
Weekday cover during working hours is provided by the emergency general surgery consultant-led team.
