This is a 6PA locum appointment for a Consultant in Respiratory and Cystic Fibrosis, with special interests in CLD. This post will deliver 6PAs supporting the Paediatric Respiratory team (Dr Tim Lee, Dr Chris Edwards, Dr Alex Adams, Dr Emma Guy, Dr Evie Robson, Dr Laura Walker) The post will be based at the Leeds General Infirmary. All of Leeds tertiary paediatric services take place in the Leeds Childrens Hospital, within Leeds General Infirmary in Leeds city centre which has excellent transport links. Since April 2010 the regional paediatric respiratory and cystic fibrosis service has been based at a new purpose-built outpatient facility within the Childrens Hospital.



Leeds is also the nationally commissioned supra-regional centre for childrens Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) for the North of England. 2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST To deliver care to patients within the Paediatric Respiratory department at the Leeds Childrens Hospital: Out-patient clinics Supervision of patients Care of in-patients on an on-call rota (1 in 7) Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings 2.1 To link with consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within Paediatrics and across the Leeds Childrens Hospital. To work with colleagues in Paediatric Respiratory to deliver acute on call for Paediatric Respiratory Medicine.



This includes both out-of-hours cover (remote, band B) in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours and at weekends 2.2 To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Paediatric Respiratory Service. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department and maintain an up-to-date Good Clinical Practice certificate (GCP). 3. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST 3.1 General Training and Qualifications The appointee must hold accreditation in Paediatric Respiratory in the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent and have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programme within the UK. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. Applicants must provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevant Royal College at the time of application, in order for their application to be progressed further.



3.2 Experience The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and appropriate experience in CLD and Sleep. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials. 3.3 Person specification See person specification document. 3.4 Clinical Audit The appointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the lead in the following: Mortality and morbidity meetings; Clinical audit programmes; Development and application of agreed clinical guidelines.



This is to be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as a supporting programmed activity. It would be expected that the time allocated for this would include attendance at the relevant departmental audit meeting(s) and that such attendance would be recorded (in accordance with the Trusts clinical audit policy). In the discharge of these responsibilities the candidate will be expected to maintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education. 4.



TEACHING The Trust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and all Consultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme. The post-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on a speciality or clinical area basis. The post-holder will be required to collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliver appropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds. The appointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teaching of postgraduates, including the teaching programme for SpRs in Respiratory Medicine in the Local Education and Training Board.



5. JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTS The job plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for Paediatric Respiratory medicine The annual job plan review may result in a revised job plan. There may be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area. 5.1 Proposed Job Plan The post consists of 6PAs with 4.5PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activity (SPA).



These 6PAs will be delivered in the Respiratory Unit. This job plan will fit together with colleagues job-plans with a careful rota of clinical sessions, to ensure robust cover. For example, on a 1:7 rota the post holder will have a week of on call, with cross-cover from other members of the team.
