Main duties of the job
Pain Management
The role will be based across all of the UHB hospital sites. Patients are triaged by the consultant team and selected to attend the range of MDT, Specialised and single discipline clinics which we offer. With the increased use of multi-media to provide pain services we aim to further develop this as a service for those patients who are unable to travel or be seen physically within the Pain Clinic setting. We offer a full range of treatments and include the full range of therapies that would be expected within such a large department including medication advice, injection therapies, Functional Restoration Programmes, Pain Management Programmes, individually tailored physiotherapy and fitness programmes, individual psychological therapies including CBT, and Acupuncture
Anaesthetics
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to join its progressive anaesthesia department. Our surgical specialties, include complex areas like neurosurgery, cardiothoracics, hepatobiliary surgery, and Europe's largest solid organ transplant program. The role also involves pre-operative care, regional anaesthesia, and the Enhanced Postoperative Care Unit.

As a Level 1 Trauma Centre, the hospital is renowned for trauma and combat injury care. The department, consisting of over 100 consultants, offers strong educational support, opportunities for research, and involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in collaboration with Birmingham and Aston universities. Staff wellbeing is prioritized through mentorship programs, wellness initiatives, and a supportive team culture. There is ample opportunity within the department for the successful candidate to nurture their academic and non-academic interests including research and education.
The Pain Management Department is seeking a Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthetics to support patients with Chronic and Acute Pain through collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide individualised care plans. Clinical delivery will consist of outpatients and daycase procedures including injection therapy.
In addition to the Pain Management aspect of the role, the successful candidate will join the Anaesthesia Department at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham as a Consultant Anaesthetist (General Duties) to join its tertiary and quaternary-level care team. The role involves delivering anaesthetic and perioperative services across various specialties, including general surgery, trauma, plastics, ENT, maxillofacial, interventional radiology, urology, and gynaecology.
The position comprises 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), with flexibility in allocation to uncovered lists and consultant leave cover.
The successful applicant will join the Trauma On-call rota, covering Trauma emergency Theatres.
Active involvement in teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students is expected, fostering a supportive learning environment.
The Trust emphasizes high clinical standards through regular appraisals, audits, and participation in departmental and specialty reviews. Candidates with a research interest are encouraged to collaborate with affiliated institutions.
