Job Summary:
The Locum Consultant in Plastic Surgery will provide high-quality care to patients requiring plastic surgery interventions, including reconstructive, aesthetic, and trauma-related surgery. The role is temporary, and the consultant will be expected to maintain the high standards of clinical care, teaching, and service delivery, working alongside multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care:
Diagnose, assess, and manage a wide range of plastic surgery conditions (e.g., trauma, congenital anomalies, burns, skin cancers, hand surgery, reconstructive procedures).
Perform complex surgeries, including but not limited to reconstructive, aesthetic, and trauma-related surgeries.
Provide expert advice on the management of patients with plastic and reconstructive needs, ensuring a patient-centered approach.
Participate in on-call duties as required.
Provide outpatient consultations and follow-up care for plastic surgery patients.
Ensure that all surgical interventions are carried out to the highest standards of care and safety.
Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other healthcare professionals such as nursing staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other specialties to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Provide guidance and leadership to junior staff, including registrars, residents, and medical students.
Participate in departmental meetings, clinical audits, and case reviews.
Teaching & Training:
Mentor and supervise medical students, junior doctors, and surgical trainees.
Engage in teaching and learning opportunities within the department and contribute to the academic development of the department.
Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement:
Ensure that all clinical practices are in line with hospital policies and national guidelines.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and the implementation of evidence-based practices.
Monitor patient outcomes and contribute to developing best practices for patient care within the department.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
Attend and participate in departmental and hospital meetings, as well as relevant administrative duties related to the role.
Provide regular reports on patient care, surgical outcomes, and departmental activities as required.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
Medical Degree:
MBBS or equivalent.
Specialist Qualifications:
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), along with the relevant plastic surgery qualifications (e.g., FRCS (Plast) or equivalent).
Experience:
Significant experience in the field of plastic surgery, including independent surgical practice. Experience in handling complex reconstructive, aesthetic, and trauma-related surgeries.
On-Call Experience:
Experience in managing emergencies, on-call duties, and trauma situations.
Skills & Competencies:
Clinical Expertise:
High level of proficiency in diagnosing, treating, and performing surgeries related to plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Leadership Skills:
Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and supervise junior staff effectively.
Communication Skills:
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to liaise with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
Teaching Ability:
Proven ability to teach, supervise, and mentor junior doctors and medical students.
Organizational Skills:
Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks within a busy clinical setting.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
Subspecialty training or expertise in specific areas of plastic surgery, such as microsurgery, hand surgery, or craniofacial surgery.
Experience in research and academic activities within plastic surgery.
Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and hospital administration software.

Contract length: 6 months
Pay: 92.60-120.00 per hour
