Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team on a part time, locum basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing venipunctures and collecting blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, as well as the ability to work effectively in a hospital environment.
The successful candidate will be based out of our London clinics but maybe asked travel to various Body Brilliant locations throughout the UK. This role is ideal for a dedicated Phlebotomist who is passionate about patient care and is eager to work in a dynamic and growing company with a focus on health, wellbeing and longevity.
Duties
Perform venipunctures and capillary draws for blood collection from patients of all ages, including paediatrics.
Ensure the correct identification of patients prior to sample collection to maintain safety and accuracy.
Maintain aseptic technique throughout the blood collection process to prevent contamination.
Prepare and label specimens for laboratory analysis according to established protocols.
Assist in catheterisation procedures when necessary, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Document all procedures accurately in patient records and laboratory information systems.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care and communication regarding specimen requirements.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the phlebotomy area, adhering to health and safety regulations.
Skills
Proven experience in phlebotomy, preferably within a hospital setting.
Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to blood collection procedures.
Familiarity with medical terminology related to laboratory practices.
Proficient in aseptic techniques to ensure safe blood collection processes.
Experience working in a laboratory environment is advantageous.
Ability to perform catheterisation with care and precision when required.
Basic life support certification is preferred, ensuring readiness for emergency situations.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff alike.
