Job Summary



The postholder will provide high-quality, safe, and effective medical care to patients within the assigned specialty under appropriate supervision. The role is suitable for doctors with Foundation or Core Training level experience seeking locum opportunities across a range of specialties within the NHS Trust.

The Locum SHO will work closely with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to assess, manage, and treat patients, contribute to ward rounds, clerking, and on-call duties, and ensure accurate documentation and communication of clinical information.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



Perform initial clerking and assessment of patients on admission. Participate in daily ward rounds with senior clinicians. Manage acute and chronic medical/surgical conditions under supervision. Request and interpret relevant investigations appropriately. Maintain accurate and timely medical records in accordance with Trust policy. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals. Participate in on-call and out-of-hours rotas as required. Ensure adherence to Trust policies on clinical governance, infection control, and patient safety. Engage in departmental teaching, audits, and quality improvement projects. Support junior colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.

Person Specification



Essential:



Full GMC registration with a license to practise Completed Foundation Year 1 (FY1) & FY2 competencies (or equivalent) Current right to work in the UK Experience in acute hospital settings Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Desirable:



Previous NHS experience in relevant specialty ALS / ATLS / APLS certification (as applicable) Participation in audit or quality improvement initiatives

Working Pattern



Standard hours: 40 hours per week (or as per rota) On-call duties: Variable (days, nights, weekends) Flexible working options available depending on departmental needs
