Job Purpose



The Locum Senior House Officer (SHO) will provide safe, effective, and high-quality medical care to patients under the supervision of senior clinicians. The post holder will support ward-based care, acute admissions, outpatient clinics, and on-call services according to the needs of the department.

Medical Specialties



General Medicine Acute Medicine Care of the Elderly (Geriatrics) Respiratory Medicine Cardiology Gastroenterology Endocrinology & Diabetes Neurology Renal Medicine Oncology Haematology Stroke Medicine Infectious Diseases

Surgical Specialties



General Surgery Trauma & Orthopaedics (T&O) Urology Vascular Surgery Plastic Surgery ENT (Otolaryngology) Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Neurosurgery

Other Specialties



Emergency Medicine (A&E) Paediatrics Obstetrics & Gynaecology Psychiatry Intensive Care / Critical Care Anaesthetics (non-training / ward-based roles) Palliative Care Rehabilitation Medicine

Key Duties and Responsibilities



Provide day-to-day medical care for inpatients and outpatients Clerking new admissions and formulating management plans Conduct ward rounds and document clinical findings Request and interpret investigations Prescribe medications safely in line with Trust policies Escalate concerns appropriately to senior colleagues Participate in on-call and out-of-hours rotas Liaise with multidisciplinary teams Maintain accurate and timely medical records Comply with NHS Trust policies, clinical governance, and patient safety standards

Qualifications and RequirementsEssential Qualifications



MBBS / MBChB or equivalent medical degree Full registration with the

General Medical Council (GMC)

with a licence to practise Completion of

FY1

or equivalent internship

Essential Experience



Minimum 6-12 months postgraduate clinical experience Previous NHS experience (desirable but may be essential depending on Trust) Experience working at SHO / FY2 / CT1 level

Essential Skills & Competencies



Good clinical decision-making and patient assessment skills Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Effective communication and interpersonal skills Competence in common clinical procedures relevant to specialty Good IT skills, including use of electronic patient records Ability to manage workload and work under pressure

Compliance Requirements



Right to work in the UK Occupational health clearance Enhanced DBS check Up-to-date mandatory training (e.g. Basic Life Support, Infection Control, Safeguarding) Two recent clinical references

Desirable Requirements



ALS (Advanced Life Support) certification MRCP / MRCS (Part 1 or 2) Experience in the relevant specialty Evidence of audit, teaching, or quality improvement activity

Working Hours



Variable shifts including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays Rota-based according to service requirements

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: 40.00-50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45 - 50 per week
