Job Summary:
The Locum Specialty Doctor will provide high-quality medical care to patients within their appointed specialty, at a level equivalent to a Specialty Registrar (ST3-ST8). The post-holder will work under the supervision of consultant staff, while exercising a high degree of clinical autonomy in managing patients, supervising junior doctors, and contributing to departmental service delivery.
The role will involve direct patient care, participation in on-call rotas (as required), multidisciplinary team working, and active involvement in clinical governance and audit activities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care within the specialty.
Undertake ward rounds, outpatient clinics, theatre lists, procedural sessions, and emergency duties as appropriate.
Assess, investigate, diagnose, and treat patients in line with departmental protocols and national guidelines.
Lead and participate in the management of acute and emergency cases, including on-call work.
Supervise and support junior medical staff (FY1-CT2 level).
Liaise effectively with nursing, allied health professionals, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement projects, morbidity & mortality meetings, and departmental audits.
Engage in teaching of junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare staff.
Maintain accurate, timely, and legible clinical records.
Comply with Trust policies on infection control, safeguarding, and patient confidentiality.
Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) in accordance with GMC requirements.
Person Specification:
Essential:
GMC registration with a license to practise.
Minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience, including at least 2 years in the relevant specialty.
Equivalent competence to ST3-ST8 level in the UK.
Ability to work independently and make safe clinical decisions.
Desirable:
MRCP/MRCS/MRCPsych/FRCA or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
NHS experience.

Typical Working Pattern:
40 hours per week (full-time) or pro rata for part-time.
Shift patterns may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call duties.

Pay: 60.00-80.00 per hour
