Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated
Locum Specialty Grade Doctor in Ophthalmology

The post-holder will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred ophthalmic care within a modern, well-equipped private hospital environment.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic assessments in the
Pre-Assessment Clinic (PAC)
to evaluate patients prior to cataract and other ophthalmic surgeries.
Manage follow-up reviews and clinical evaluations in the
Post-Operative Clinic (POC)
, identifying complications and escalating cases when necessary.
Perform
YAG laser capsulotomy
procedures in the
YAG/PAG clinic
, ensuring safe and effective treatment of posterior capsule opacification.
Support outpatient clinics in general ophthalmology and subspecialty areas as needed.
Interpret diagnostic imaging and test results (e.g., OCT, visual fields, biometry).
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with hospital policies.
Liaise with consultants, nursing teams, and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Adhere to clinical governance, patient safety, and infection control standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
recognised by the GMC.
Full GMC registration
with a licence to practise.
Minimum
4 years postgraduate medical experience
, including at least
2 years in ophthalmology
.
Proficient in managing patients in PAC, POC, and competent in performing YAG laser procedures independently.
Excellent clinical decision-making and communication skills.
Able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable:
Experience in private healthcare settings.
Evidence of continuing professional development (e.g., MRCOphth, FRCOphth Part 1/2).
Certification in laser safety or prior YAG laser accreditation.
Additional Requirements:
Right to work in the UK.
Valid indemnity insurance
Compliance with safeguarding and infection prevention policies.
Availability for flexible working hours, including weekend clinics if required.
