Logistics & Customer Service Manager

Ellesmere Port, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About Big Atom

Big Atom provides recycling solutions across the entire waste tyre supply chain. We work with local garages, tyre wholesalers, and manufacturers -- and we also create steady work for existing collectors and recyclers by bringing them into one coordinated network.

We combine a real operational business (collections and processing) with a digital platform that helps organise it all. Today, the platform coordinates our own fleet and trusted partner fleets to collect tyres nationally, then routes them to the right processing capacity -- either at our Ellesmere Port yard or through our processing partners in other regions.

By connecting these moving parts, Big Atom helps turn a fragmented industry into a more reliable circular value chain, transforming end-of-life tyres into reusable materials.

About the role

This is a hands-on operations role focused on keeping collections running smoothly and customers looked after -- every day. You'll book jobs to collect waste tyres and also coordinate the outbound movement of the recycled product produced from yards around the country.

You'll be on the phone a lot -- with customers, drivers, and partners -- making sure work is booked properly, instructions are clear, and problems get solved quickly. You'll also be a central point of communication for drivers (our own and partner drivers), including onboarding new drivers so they're set up, briefed, and operating consistently.

A big part of doing this well is using our software properly. Big Atom has built its own logistics platform -- think "Uber for waste" -- that lets us assign jobs to collection partners quickly and track what's happening. We're constantly improving it, and your feedback will be key: you'll work closely with software developers to automate repetitive tasks, plan more jobs, and resolve changes instantly.

Who we're looking for

You'll thrive in this role if you're the kind of person who:

Takes ownership?-- you spot issues early and fix them, rather than waiting to be told. Is highly organised?-- you can juggle collections, outbound movements, changes, customers, and admin without things slipping. Communicates clearly and confidently?-- especially when plans change or something doesn't line up. Stays calm under pressure?-- you can prioritise when multiple things hit at once. Is accurate and consistent?-- you care about correct bookings, clean records, and clear instructions. Is process-driven and coachable?-- you follow instructions, use the systems we already have, and stay consistent day-to-day. Improvement-minded but disciplined?-- you suggest better ways of working, but you communicate changes first and align before implementing anything. Enjoys operational problem-solving?-- you like being close to the action and making things run better week by week.

Key Responsibilities

Logistics coordination (collections + outbound)

Book and coordinate tyre collection jobs across multiple yards nationwide. Arrange outbound transport of recycled product from various yards around the country. Assign work to internal drivers and partner drivers, ensuring instructions are clear and confirmed. Manage day-of changes: delays, access restrictions, volume changes, missed collections, and urgent requests. Keep customers informed when plans shift, and prevent issues turning into service failures.
Driver & partner coordination

Act as the central point of communication for drivers and collection partners. Onboard new drivers (internal and partners): setup, processes, expectations, and day-to-day comms. Maintain strong working relationships with partner fleets to protect service quality and reliability.
Fleet, compliance & admin control

Plan vehicle servicing and maintenance schedules (servicing, maintenance, PMIs) to minimise downtime. Ensure vehicles are compliant: tax, insurance, MOTs, and required checks are tracked and up to date. Input and manage operational data (job details, notes, outcomes) using internal systems/software. Keep records tidy and accurate across bookings, collections, outbound loads, customer accounts, and transactions.
Customer management & bookings

Handle customer enquiries via phone, email, messaging, and social media -- fast and professionally. Provide quotations and convert enquiries into confirmed bookings using agreed pricing tools and guidelines. Invoice support:?invoicing is automated, but occasionally needs manual intervention (amending and/or issuing invoices). You'll flag issues quickly, communicate with the team, and make sure invoice problems get resolved without slowing collections or damaging the customer experience. Keep customer details, notes, and account information clean and current.
Platform improvement & automation

Use Big Atom's logistics platform daily to assign and manage jobs across internal and partner fleets. Work with software developers to optimise workflows and automate repetitive admin -- making planning faster and changes easier to handle. Flag recurring operational issues and propose practical fixes (system changes, templates, better data capture, process checks).
Skills & experience

Strong organisational skills -- able to manage multiple moving parts at once. Clear communication -- confident speaking with customers, drivers, and operational teams. Strong attention to detail -- accurate booking info, clean records, and follow-through. Practical problem-solving -- you can troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise. Solid IT skills -- confident with MS Office (Excel especially) and learning systems quickly. Experience in logistics coordination, operations support, transport planning, or customer operations is preferred.
