Main duties, tasks & skills required
-----------------------------------------
The role is to work with the B7 CNS and the wider multi-disciplinary team to coordinate and develop all aspects of the lung care pathway for patients with suspected or confirmed lung cancer diagnosis in line with the national guidance, recommendations, policy and Peer Review.
The nurse acting as a key worker will be vital in communicating the outcomes of discussions to the patient and carers. As such nurses plan and run nurse led clinics to support facilitating this.
The range of support the nurse gives to cancer patients is large, and include information and explanation, appointments, assessments, arranging medication adjustments, symptom advise to emotional support, and breaking bad news.
By working in collaboration with other clinical teams and with community and primary services across the cancer pathway we will improve services and patient access and therefore improve the experience and outcomes for people with cancer. This collaboration will include Oncology, Radiology, Cardiology, Respiratory, end of life care and social/economic issues as it is recognised that many patients on a cancer pathway have multiple comorbidities which require more than one expert opinion.
