We are looking for an enthusiastic Macmillan Cancer Information Assistant to join the team working part time from Monday to Wednesday 9:00am - 5:00pm. This is a fixed term post until the end of March 2026 to cover a secondment.

The post holder will help to provide a basic-level information service for cancer patients, people affected by cancer, clinical staff and the public.
The post holder will help to assess the information and support needs of service users, providing the appropriate level of intervention, with signposting to other support services as required.
The post holder will offer person-centred cancer information, through face-to-face, email, telephone, and video interactions.
The post holder will be based mainly at North Middlesex Hospital within the Macmillan Information Centre, and will also provide cover in other trust Macmillan Information Centres . Some information outreach work at community healthcare locations will also be expected in this role.
The post holder will need to have the self-confidence, skills, knowledge and experience to work independently and flexibly, however Macmillan Information Specialists based at other Centres will be available for advice when required.

The post holder will be based mainly at North Middlesex Hospital within the Macmillan Information Centre, and will also provide cover in other trust Macmillan Information Centres . Some information outreach work at community healthcare locations will also be expected in this role.
The post holder will work within Operational Policies for the Macmillan Information Centre and will be expected to use their own judgement and initiative in doing so.

To interact with patients, carers or relatives to support access to high quality trusted cancer information resources and support
Triage of individual patient and carer/relative needs, confidential listening, verbal and written information materials, action planning and signposting to appropriate services.
Maintain a highly professional and confidential standard of work at all times. Keep up to date with knowledge of cancer support and information.
To use needs assessment skills to provide appropriate information through face-to-face, email, telephone, video/social media interactions. This information will cover:
The entire range of cancers
The full range of cancer treatments, including novel modalities
Accessing financial advice and welfare benefits support
Local Support Services
Survivorship issues (Living Beyond Cancer)
Complementary therapies
Psychosocial support
Access to local/national support organisations e.g. tumour-specific charities.
To document activity data (core data) for all interactions via input into the Macmillan database, and to provide the data to Macmillan and the Trust on a quarterly basis, or upon request.
Collect data in a timely and accurate manner e.g. for service monitoring, audits or quality improvement initiatives.
