Maintenance / Shop Assistant - Full Time

Goonhavern Garden Centre is a local, family run garden centre in-between Newquay and Truro which requires a maintenance assistant to help in the day to day running of the business.

We are looking for a member of the team who is loyal, trustworthy and able to work independently, taking care and maintaining the shop and the grounds whilst serving our customers. You will report to the Garden Centre Manager, and you work alongside other members of the garden centre team.

This position is unique in that although it is not primarily a customer facing role, you must understand our customers are our priority. This is a retail environment and respect this accordingly - any retail experience would be an advantage. During the few months of the busy spring gardening season, you can be expected to take a back seat on the maintenance jobs and give 100% to serving our loyal customers.

You will be required to build products, fix things, clean areas, tidying, sorting goods in and assist in goods out. A large part of the job will be to count stock, and to use the back office of the EPOS system to manage this.
You must be extremely tidy, handy and take pride in their workmanship and strive for perfection.

You will be required to drive the forklift truck. (If you currently don't hold a ticket, we would be happy to train the right person).

We are looking for someone who is dedicated, hard working and doesn't mind giving that little bit extra. You must be friendly, outgoing and confident to support all types of customers. This position is permanent, full-time Sunday to Thursday (Fri and Sat days off).

Skill Required:

Fit, strong and hard working

Focused and organised

A problem solver

Excellent DIY skills - carpentry, plumbing, flat pack building, painting & decorating etc

Experienced in stock control and wastage management

Understands the importance of keeping 'behind the scenes' tidy and in order

Responsible for all waste management

Has an active role in assisting the Garden Centre Manager with health & safety

Responsible for the running and maintenance of the Forklift truck

Able to organise deliveries in, and assist the garden centre delivery driver with deliveries out to customers.

Retail/customer service skills
