The Tall Ship is Glasgow's most unique attraction and one of only five Clydebuilt sailing ships left afloat in the world. Berthed alongside the Riverside Museum, the Ship operates as a historic vessel/visitor attraction, welcoming over 100,000 visitors per year, giving locals and tourists an insight into life aboard a sailing ship. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual to join our well-established maintenance team.
Full-time position with training.
Candidates must be physically fit, have good customer service skills (people skills, friendly), and have either relevant experience or excellent DIY skills, painting, woodworking etc. The successful candidate will use traditional and modern techniques within the public environment, maintaining the Tall Ship which involves working extensively outdoors. The ability to work at height is essential.
The crew person will work primarily on the Sv Glenlee (The Tall Ship) in all aspects of maintaining a traditional sailing ship, this will include caulking the deck, working aloft in the rigging, woodworking, steelwork, and painting. Training in traditional ship keeping skills will be provided.
Training offered:
Fulltime with on-the-job training in traditional maritime skills.
Rope access training: with Irata level 1 within 6 months.
Powerboat training: Level 2
Once the trainee has achieved competence within the crewman/VST role, additional training would be considered in a specialization (woodworking/metalwork/boatbuilding)
