Job Overview:



You will be supporting the Maintenance Manager and be an integral part of the Maintenance Team within Bella & Duke. You will be joining a close-knit team at the heart of a fast moving, high growth company. As we grow, the role and responsibilities may change, although there is scope to adapt how we currently do things, encouraging continuous improvement within our organisation.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager the successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out mechanical and electrical maintenance of meat grinding/mixing machines, packing and labelling machines, conveyors, including coordinating maintenance activities.

We are seeking a proactive and skilled engineer (or a junior engineer willing to develop their skills) to support the reliability and efficiency of our manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. This role involves both hands-on technical work, and coordination with other departments to uphold safety, quality and productivity standards.

This role is integral to our business, the shift pattern is a 2 week rolling rota, rotational dayshift and backshift between the hours of 0500-2200 Monday to Friday with some flexibility required.

Key Responsibilities:



Troubleshooting and repairs

- Diagnose mechanical, electrical or system issues and perform repairs efficiently to minimise downtime

Preventative and predictive maintenance

- Develop, schedule and execute maintenance plans to prevent breakdowns and extend equipment life

Equipment installation

- Oversee or assist in installing new machinery or systems, ensuring proper set up and integration

Safety compliance

- ensure all maintenance activities follow safety regulations and company policies to prevent accidents

Coordination with teams

- work closely with production, supply/ops and distribution, additionally external vendors for timely issue resolution and project execution

Continuous improvement

- Identify opportunities to enhance machinery performance, reduce costs and increase efficiency

Training and supervision

- train Junior employees (if appropriate) and sometimes supervise contractors during major overhauls

Maintenance documentation

- Keep accurate records of all maintenance activities, equipment history and failure logs.

Spare parts and Inventory management

- monitor inventory levels of spare parts and coordinate effectively to avoid delays in repairs

Skills and experience:



A full valid UK driving license is preferred Must be qualified to HND or HNC level in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering or working towards this. Understanding of all legislation and critical requirements including PUWER and LOLER is essential. Experience in manual dexterity in awkward positions. Lifting of tools and machine Parts up to 20kgs. IOSH Accreditation would be an advantage Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles is a plus Ideally be experienced working in a high-volume processing environment, in particular maintenance engineering of rollers, bearings, motor gearboxes in a processing environment. Experience working with production plant control technology including PLC and inverter-controlled systems would be advantageous
