Maintenance Engineer



Shift pattern is 4 on, 4 off - 5am-5pm. Would also be required for holiday, training and sickness cover. This will involve working night shift 5pm-5am.

The role



Reporting to the Maintenance Manager you will help to deliver the Tofoo engineering plan which involves regular planned maintenance, project work, general repairs and machine breakdowns helping to guarantee the safety of all staff and limiting line downtime thus increasing productivity. As a team player with good communication skills, you will be expected to ensure that everyone within operations is fully aware of issues that might arise and, where possible, develop and train others in how to rectify simple problems.

The key focus of this role is to be proactive - foreseeing any possible issues and dealing with these before they arise. It is important to know what good looks like with a keen eye for detail working independently without supervision.

You will be a logical thinker with several years proven engineering experience ideally gained within a food environment coupled with an engineering qualification and high levels of organisational skills.

Key areas of responsibility



Preventative Maintenance & Equipment Optimisation

Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules for equipment to minimise downtime and extend lifespan

Inspect, maintain and optimise machinery including mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems to ensure high performance reliability

Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades or modifications to improve efficiency and productivity

Troubleshooting

Diagnose equipment failures and malfunctions to minimise production disruptions

Use Technical knowledge and analytical skills to identify root causes of mechanical and electrical issues

Work closely with Operations and Production teams to address urgent maintenance needs and implement solutions

Installations and Commissioning of equipment

Support the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment

Test, calibrate and adjust new equipment to ensure it meets operational standards

Train operators and maintenance staff on equipment operation, troubleshooting and maintenance best practices

Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement

Collect and analyse data on equipment performance, failures and maintenance costs to identify trends and improvement opportunities

Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and reduce maintenance expenses

Recommend and implement changes to maintenance procedures standards or technologies to increase efficiency.

Compliance & Safety Standards

Ensure Maintenance activities comply with safety, quality and regulatory standards

Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments of equipment and maintenance areas

Develop and maintain safety procedures and protocols for maintenance tasks and provide training to staff as required.

Skills and experience required / preferred



Minimum 3-5 years' experience in maintenance engineering, ideally in a food manufacturing industry



Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, as well as PLC's



Proficiency in diagnostic tools, computerised maintenance management systems and Microsoft office suite



Familiarity with health, safety and environmental regulations and standards



Strong problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills



Competence in analysing data, monitoring budgets and creating reports



Ability to work independently and in a team environment
