Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

"The team is made up of knowledgeable and experienced professionals that provide sound engineering advice to all of our customers and ensure that the Plant & Apparatus remains available, compliant and safe. We are looking to welcome an individual that can bring their experience and knowledge to further develop and innovate our contribution to the business.


Maintenance Engineering is a specialist team made up of highly skilled individuals across the full range of Engineering disciplines, i.e. Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and EC&I, with the responsibility of maintaining an appropriate Asset Management strategy.


The successful candidate will provide a focal point of engineering expertise and ownership for a portfolio of assigned mechanical plant systems and/or assets with limited nuclear, radiological, environmental or business significance and will deliver a comprehensive engineering service to customers and stakeholders, maintaining long term safety, performance, reliability, material condition and compliance.


Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities




To provide engineering expertise in the investigation and rectification of plant and equipment defects. Appraisal of emergent plant or equipment deficiencies in order to allow rectification. Assist the Engineering Section Head to ensure that site plant is maintained and is suitably safe, efficient and reliable. Liaise with System Engineers to ensure that plant performance and details of component defects are considered as part of the overall system or asset management/investment strategy. Carry out Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and prepare Method Statements/Work Instructions for all defect maintenance. Provide technical support for maintenance activities where required. Writing/managing modifications/safety cases under the plant modification procedure. Act as Nominated Responsible Engineer as required. Provide technical support to current and future project design and implementation. Provide authoritative advice for internal departments to support advice to external stakeholders. The post holder may be required to undertake delegated responsibility for the Design Authority and act as a site intelligent customer. The post holder may be required to undertake emergency scheme duties. Comply with the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments. Support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety Environment and Quality on Site. As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to support delivery within his or her range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence. Produce and/or approve relevant documentation for assigned systems such as Technical Specifications, Work Instructions, Method Statements, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments. + Identify Asset Management project functional requirements and stakeholder needs for assigned project.
+ Support project optioneering process.
+ Develop concept design and fit for purpose engineering solution for projects
+ Manage hand over to systems/operations ensuring that all drawings, instructions and training have been supplied as required.

Qualifications and Experience




Educated to HNC or Engineering Degree, National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5/6 (essential). Membership of a relevant Engineering Institute with Incorporated or Chartered Status (desirable). Experience in a Mechanical Engineering role on industrial plant including nuclear and conventional plant operation and/or maintenance experience and detailed understanding of relevant Company and/or national engineering standards (essential). Working knowledge of CDM Designers role and the Electrical & Mechanical Safety Rules (desirable) Detailed knowledge of risk assessment methodology, relevant Site Licence and Quality Management System requirements and Project delivery experience (desirable).

Flexible working - where possible. The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee's annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers. There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
