We are seeking a hands-on Maintenance Engineer to support a busy manufacturing site. This practical role requires proven industrial experience, the ability to work independently, and a strong focus on safety, reliability, and performance.
Reporting to the Works Manager, you will coordinate with contractors and internal teams to deliver effective maintenance activities, control costs, improve efficiency, and minimise equipment failure and downtime. You will work closely with Production, Warehouse, and Laboratory teams to support safe and efficient operations.
The position involves fault finding across mechanical and operational issues, identifying root causes, and implementing proactive maintenance solutions to ensure efficient and effective site operations.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Maintain statutory compliance of site equipment (e.g. boilers, compressors).
Carry out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency maintenance issues.
Implement preventative maintenance programmes to reduce unplanned downtime.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, and spare parts usage.
Support with Risk Assessment maintenance checks linked but not limited to Asbestos, Legionella & Fire Management.
Liaise with production, warehouse, and laboratory teams on improvements and maintenance planning.
Monitor spare parts stock and coordinate with procurement.
Maintain a clean and organised maintenance and tool storage area.
Operate forklift trucks as required (valid counterbalance licence essential)
Operate Aislemaster forklift, scissor lift and pedestrian flexi combi lift as required (licence preferred / training provided).
Additional Responsibilities
Act as site key holder.
Provide equipment status updates, planned downtime, preventive maintenance and contractor activity to the Works Manager.
Coordinate contractors, issue permits, and ensure safe working practices.
Work to agreed performance targets.
Qualifications & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational qualifications preferred.
3-5 years' industrial maintenance experience.
Strong hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment (mixers, pumps, motors, conveyors, gearboxes).
Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings.
CMMS and Microsoft Office experience.
Plumbing, electrical, steam pipework, welding or forklift licences advantageous.
