Titsey Estate Company - Maintenance Staff



A vacancy has arisen which would suit a flexible, hardworking individual to undertake duties in relation to successful and smooth running of the maintenance department of a country estate in East Surrey. A skill in all trades would be an advantage and in at least one (eg. carpentry, general building, electrician, plumber) essential. The position will involve all aspects of day to day building work and reporting to the Maintenance Foreman.

1. Background



The Titsey Estate is approximately 3,000 acres, situated around the M25 and the village of Limpsfield. It comprises about 100 houses, cottages, commercial and industrial buildings. Rest room and associated facilities are provided at the estate yard.

The estate benefits from a private water supply to numerous properties which requires regular monitoring and maintenance.

2. - Responsibilities



a) Maintenance

i. Working independently and alongside the Maintenance Foreman on whatever work is required. This may include:

a. Minor Repairs to roof areas

b. Renewing ceilings and plasterboard

c. Painting and decorating - internal and external

d. WC and plumbing repairs

e. Fitting door locks, window locks, door handles etc.

f. Repointing and brick laying

g. Basic interior fit out of commercial buildings

h. Checking and monitoring the repair of estate walls and removing ivy

i. Repairs of residential property garden buildings such as outbuildings and sheds

j. Concreting

k. Ground works

b) Health and Safety

a. Need to be able to take responsibility for health and safety, and to have a good working knowledge of key health and safety legislation and its practical application. This will include following and adapting risk assessments and method statements and keeping records of all health and safety matters.

c) General

a. Need to be pro-active with a can-do attitude and be able to work alongside other contractors, tenants, employees of the Estate and managing agents.

b. You will be part of a team and should be prepared to work alongside the other Estate departments who have responsibility for the formal gardens, the public opening, tea rooms and mansion house security.

c. Other day to day duties may include:-

i) Maintenance and monitoring of the private water supply

ii) Liaising with property occupiers on a regular basis and reporting to the property managers

iii) Keeping the Estate Yard clean and tidy - strimming and clearance

iv) Reading of electricity meters on a regular basis and ensuring that these are accurate based on comparisons with previous readings

v) Checking water meters and taking readings on a regular basis

3. Hours of Work and Holidays



The hours of work are 7.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday. There will be two half an hour breaks for breakfast and lunch.

You are entitled to 20 days holiday per year plus the annual statutory bank holidays. The holiday year is from 1st January to the 31st of December.

4. Salary



The salary is dependent on experience, payable monthly in arrears direct into your bank account. Any review of your salary will be carried out annually on the anniversary of your employment date.
