Job Description

Job Summary The postholder will be the Specialist lead in his area of expertise and will be responsible for the Installation, maintenance, servicing and repairs of all equipment and properties belonging to the Trust or for other organisations as directed. They will ensure compliance of all safety standards and procedures for both in house and contracting staff by ensuring training and technical support is provided. They will be responsible for ensuring the Trust is maintained as required by statutory and Government Guidelines i.e. HTMs, HBNs etc.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

1.1Care/service/function provision: Understand the complete working of the plumbing/electrical, mechanical and building services throughout the Trust. Service. Test, diagnose, repair and calibrate advanced mechanical and electrical installations, plant and equipment, deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others. Assemble install and commission new work.



Use all relevant tools and equipment. 5. To carry out safe isolation of gas pipe work as required by ACOP in accordance with Gas safe Regulations. 6.



To carry out work to HTM 04-01, ACOP L8 and HSG274 works relating to legionella ensuring all tests and monitoring is carried out as specified in the guidance. 7. To carry out ventilation inspection and testing in line with HTM 03-01. 8.



To carry out ,witness all chlorination works on potable water systems. 9. To methodically log all results and ensure work repair requirements are raised relating to any tolerances out of the manufacturers specification. 10.



To ensure all repairs are carried out as a priority. 11. To liaise with contractors carrying out relevant works in line with guidance HTM 04-01 &HTM 03-01. 12.



Implement new work and keep within agreed budget and time allocation 13. To work from ladders, to erect and work from scaffold (once trained) and safe use of safety harness. 14. The postholder will be required to carry out work on waste systems, fall pipes and land drains both in replacement and unblocking as required.



Driving hospital vehicles and plant as required (not H.G.V.). 16. The postholder will be expected to participate in The out of hours on call rota which involves multi skilling across all trades, bringing you into contact with sewage and other bodily fluids (for which protective equipment must be worn). 17.



The postholder will on occasions be required to work overtime/change working hours if the need of service dictates 1.2 Working as part of a Team: Liaise with specialist contractors or suppliers regarding the provision of technical advice or the ordering of spare parts. Provide costings for new work, obtain authority from budget holder To ensure all paper work is completed and recorded as required by the Estates Co-ordinator 4. The department operates a cross over of duties and as such the job holder would be expected to carry out other trades work, which is within his skill level. He/she would be expected to gradually increase his knowledge and capabilities in other trades to progressively and successfully take on complex work of a multi trade nature.



The Post holder will be expected to work at any properties throughout the Trust as instructed by the Estates Co-ordinator 1.3 Managing Self: 1. Learn new techniques/technologies with training as necessary All Trust employees are expected to maintain existing skills and develop/receive training in new skills as required to carry out work of the Trust. 4.



To ensure the appropriate use of safety and protective clothing and equipment, as required by good working practice and the Health and Safety at Work Act. 5. To read understand and apply safety guidance notes, hazard letters, fire instructions and other such documents as issued to the postholder by Estates Co-ordinator. 1.4 Management Supervision and Support: The Specialist lead in his area of expertise will have an understanding of Health & Safety at Work Act C.O.S.H.H.

Undertake duties of lower grade staff as appropriate.



Supervise estates support workers and estates plumbing/mechanical apprentices as required, checking and evaluating their work. Instruct others on all aspects of your work. To supervise contractors as required and ensure work is carried out in accordance with Health & Safety at Work Regulations, Trust Policies and Risk Assessments. The postholder will be required to carry out work in accordance with working at heights and permit to work systems/regulations on various functions in various conditions i.e.



confined spaces, sewerage, drains, boiler houses, patients equipment, heights and unlocking sluice master. (Protective clothing must be worn at all times). For full details of the role please see the supporting documents attached.
