Brief Description
Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway. See the diagram for a breakdown of our services. This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.
SCO keeps the materials, machinery and components required by its customers moving - making sure they are on-site when needed so work can go ahead as planned and on schedule. Watch our video

About the role (External)
As a Maintenance Technician you will be tasked to inspect, repair, maintain and overhaul Network Rails, and rail plant fleet In line with technical competencies you hold. You will also be required to work safely and within a team environment.
You will be a key player in making sure we deliver for our customer who together, we work to keep Britain moving, putting our passengers and freight community first.
Key Accountabilities
1. Undertake the inspection, repair, modification, maintenance and overhaul of Network Rails, rail plant Fleet in accordance with company policies and statutory regulations.
2. Undertake maintenance activities to the correct specifications as detailed within the vehicle maintenance instructions.
3. Investigate, diagnose and rectify mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical/electronic faults.
4. Capture and record all details of work undertaken as required by the vehicle maintenance instructions on Network Rails Fleet Asset Management system.
5. Carry out good housekeeping practice in working locations, on machine and workshop areas to provide an organised, clean and fit for purpose environment.
6. Carry out all work in accordance with good engineering principles and practices at all times.
7. Confirm all tools, test equipment and all resources necessary are maintained and fit for purpose to meet and deliver the required productive outputs.
8. Propose and introduce initiatives and technical solutions to maintain the rail fleet and its components in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
9. Assist in site/depot maintenance and general enhancements as detailed by supervisor.
10. Work shifts when required by the maintenance manager.
11. Operate Network Rail's fleet when required by the maintenance manager.
