Brief Description





This role sits within

Supply Chain Operations (SCO)

, an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.

This opportunity sits in Supply Chain Operations, a division of Route Services that procures safe products and services that are in turn used to improve and enhance the rail infrastructure across Britain. Our aim is to deliver excellent value and service to our customers, helping the rail industry to work together to deliver a more cost-effective railway. Our extensive supply chain network plays a crucial role in helping to run a safe and efficient railway.


You will be working within Fleet and Engineering. We are Network Rails Train Driving function as well as providing our in-house Operations and Maintenance of Network Rails' owned rail fleets. We also provide the core engineering capability to deliver capital projects and day to fleet management, held accountable for doing so by the regulator.


To make this happen, we provide the support to our core delivery areas to enable them to deliver on our promises. Our activities mean we have to work nationally across a number of locations, therefore our capability has to be such to deliver what the customer needs in an ever-changing landscape. We provide everything from auditing, leading investigations, to driving improvements through engineering processes and applying industrial techniques to our maintenance facility underpinned by asset management.


As a Maintenance Technician you will be tasked to inspect, repair, maintain and overhaul Network Rails, and rail plant fleet In line with technical competencies you hold. You will also be required to work safely and within a team environment.


You will be a key player in making sure we deliver for our customer who together, we work to keep Britain moving, putting our passengers and freight community first.

Key Accountabilities




1. Undertake the inspection, repair, modification, maintenance and overhaul of Network Rails, rail plant Fleet in accordance with company policies and statutory regulations.
2. Undertake maintenance activities to the correct specifications as detailed within the vehicle maintenance instructions.
3. Investigate, diagnose and rectify mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical/electronic faults.
4. Capture and record all details of work undertaken as required by the vehicle maintenance instructions on Network Rails Fleet Asset Management system.
5. Carry out good housekeeping practice in working locations, on machine and workshop areas to provide an organised, clean and fit for purpose environment.
6. Carry out all work in accordance with good engineering principles and practices at all times.
7. Confirm all tools, test equipment and all resources necessary are maintained and fit for purpose to meet and deliver the required productive outputs.
8. Propose and introduce initiatives and technical solutions to maintain the rail fleet and its components in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
9. Assist in site/depot maintenance and general enhancements as detailed by supervisor.
10. Work shifts when required by the maintenance manager
11. Operate Network Rail's fleet when required by the maintenance manager.





Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications



Essential




o Recognised certificated apprenticeship in a mechanical/electrical engineering based discipline


o Good interpersonal and communication skills


o Appropriate experience in a maintenance-based role


o Ability to travel and lodge away from home when required


o UK driving licence


o Team player


Desirable




o Knowledge of Network Rail's Rail Fleet


o Trained and competent in fork lifts, lifting equipment and overhead cranes


o Appropriate experience in similar role within an operational railway environment


o Knowledge of Railway Group and Company Standards relating to rail vehicle engineering


o Track safety competence - (PTS) Personal Track Safety (DP) Designated Person

Hours:

37.5 hours per week on average with evening and weekend working and overnight stays and travel as required.

Salary range:

Maintenanceterms and conditions - starting from 26,500 pa with additional pay for additional competencies.
