About the role
As a Maintenance Worker / Gardener at Parkside House Residential Home you will join our team and work within the Home to create a safe and attractive environment that enable us to give our residents the quality care and support they deserve. Duties will be varied and include being responsible for completing a wide variety of gardening and maintenance tasks. Specific duties will include planned preventative work and safety checks, as well as running repairs and the supervision of outside contractors. This is a satisfying role for an individual who can demonstrate practical skills in maintenance, gardening, painting and decorating as well as respect for older people.

About the home
Parkside House is a large Victorian House dedicated to providing a high standard of care for the elderly since 1986.
The home is registered for 38 residents. In the main house there are 29 single rooms and 3 double rooms. In the grounds of the main house is an additional Coach House in which there are 3 more single rooms. All rooms have washbasins, call alarms and TV points. Some rooms have en-suite facilities. The house has three floors, all of which have access to the lift. Each room has been individually decorated. Parkside House offers all the facilities you would associate with comfort and care.
On the ground floor we look after the elderly who require general care and assistance while on the first floor, we have a 'Safe Unit' (entered by a keypad system) providing enhanced levels of care and precautions for residents who have dementia.
Parkside House is situated in the seaside town of Penarth. We are conveniently placed near to the town itself and so we benefit from all the facilities and services being close to hand. The seafront is a short walk away as are the parks and cliff-top walks with lovely views.
Internally the house is furnished to a high standard and externally we have and make use of our patio area and sensory garden at the rear of the house and lawns to the front of the house.
About you
You will have a friendly caring manner and maintain our buildings and gardens to the highest possible standards, creating positive first impressions and making a difference to the lives of our residents. Experience of working in a Care Home setting is preferred but not essential.
You will play a key role resolving any repair issues.
Be able to turn your hand to a wide variety of jobs, from decorating to ground and plant maintenance.
You will be able to work well as part of a team but also use your own initiative.
Can prioritise tasks.
Be able to liaise with contractors, volunteers and other staff
You will have a positive attitude to Health & Safety
Qualifications
Proven experience in gardening and horticulture
Strong skills in landscape maintenance and groundskeeping
Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for maintenance tasks
Knowledge of irrigation systems and their installation
Ability to perform construction painting and general maintenance duties
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team
Knowledge of central heating systems, laundry equipment and hot and cold-water systems.
Knowledge of current Health & safety regulations.
